These are a great build and when you're done you have a piece of shop furniture that is both functional and looks awesome! The joinery on this piece will either challenge you or help you brush up on your skills. And did I mention they look awesome? I've made the cut lists available on my website here: www.coffeycustom...

Is PLYWOOD BETTER THAN HARDWOOD - shop made ply nightstand
Переглядів 13 тис.4 місяці тому
I designed this floating nightstand to go next to the bed in my home office. My home office is where my beautiful desk is and I wanted this to match it so I used some of the off cuts and made some shop sawn veneers and subsequent shop made plywood. Elevating My Woodwork With Veneer
Переглядів 13 тис.8 місяців тому
I finally tried my hand at bent lamination and I am hooked. This is the most fun doing woodworking I've had in a long time. I also got to make my own veneered panels (custom plywood) AND I machined my own brass hardware. This project had so many new things for me and really pushed my abilities forward. I really love this piece and can't wait to make more of them and add more iteration! If you l...

You make it look so easy. Love the story telling
A+ on story telling
Ash hole. 😅😂🤣
I love your presentation of the process. Makes me think I can go out and build one myself
ty
I’m not sure if you have enough ash jokes in this video
Nice job. Love the video and love the design of the sawhorse.
Of course you have to use the machine for many years, you get depreciation of your taxes
Cool project...good tutorial. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching!
Let's graduate to 3-phasea CNC with 80A circuits and 1,000/mo operating costs. That's not hidding costs, thats economy at scale.
I am no longer looking to buy a CNC machine!!! Im not sure i want to go thru all of this right now. Maybe I'll take another look at getting one once i retire and have time to deal with all of this!!! Thanks for sharing this TRUTH with us!!
Happy to share!
Who can repair broken cords on a macrome plant holder?😢
No clue
I just realized this is a few years old.. You probably figured out other options by now...
I still use this system from time to time and honestly the clamps aren't that big of a deal.
One thing I could suggest that might work better for you in some situations. You mentioned that the clamps stick out to far. You could use the Matchfit Dovetail Hardware kits to make your own clamps that would slide right in just like the clamps, but can be made to your specs that don't stick out so far..I have a more portable Matchfit system and have made quite a few jigs and clamps with the hardware variety packs..
Good idea
I am going to disagree with the others, the design while not offensive is pretty basic, and has been done similarly many times before, I am not a fan of through joinery, never have been but even worse is that you left the ends round and didn't take the time to square them off.
Harsh critic lol
Absolutely don't need you to like my chair and I'm sure the feeling is mutual with the chairs you built. You didn't build them for others. You built them for you. Your opinions are just that.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions. Some people feel more entitled than others.

@@CoffeyCustomBuilds it's so amusing when you give an honest critique to someone that makes you tube videos and think they are actually good at woodworking how offended they get, you're not the first. You have no idea of what my work is, and the fact that I learned under some of the masters of the 20th century, But you already know you won't like it. That's something to aspire to for sure, keep up the great attitude it will get you far I am sure.
Not gonna lie, that round over bit on the tenons felt kinda sketchy. Think I’ll stick with just chiseling that off. 😉
Yeah man get it done however you feel the most safe but roundover bit are made to round over wood and it's perfectly safe.
For anyone interested Trade Skillers Anonymous also has an excellent version of a torsion box.
It's easier to do all the mortise and the tenons with a pantorouter just sayin 😂
Oh so much easier lol I made another set this weekend in like an hour.
Can I please ask what type of plug cutter bit you are using?
You bet. The set I have is currently out of stock but here's an equitable set: amzn.to/4coE4Y4
@@CoffeyCustomBuilds thanks very much! Great video as always.
@kenfloyd430 appreciate that man
pooping your pants in shorts is the worst. glad you decided not to do that
I cgi'd it out of the video.
I'm so happy you didn't 💩 your pants in this video.
Not on camera
Great build and great video...BUT...You did not mention Krenov once. That guy could have used a shout out.
I had a long monologue about Krenov and the origins of these in Japan actually but it was going way into the weeds and I thought that it might be off putting for people just want to get it to a beginner woodworking project. He definitely is the god father of modern woodworking.
Pinch.
Pinch it off
This is great, thank you! As someone who has a band saw instead of a table saw, how would you go about doing the tenons? With a sled, or just by hand/eye?
I use magnetic stops. I remove the bulk of the material and clean up with chiseld and planes.
Plugs have short grain, while dowels have long grain strength. Dowels have more strength for a draw bore situation, and they wouldn’t snap.
Yup
You’ve made a strong case for shop diapers.
Go check my store
Very nice~! I picked up a pair of plastic horses a while back at Harbor Freight, but I'll be replacing them with a pair of these. Love the video~!
You'll love making these
For the shop or the museum “
It's covered in wood right now!
Love the video, here is my unsolicited feedback (you said you like it on Self Made). When you are talking to the camera, the depth of field seems too shallow, it looks odd, like you are on a green screen. I like the more casual nature of the voice over, you seem so jovial on the podcast, and that came through more in this video. Saying "why" you wanted the sawhorses made out of wood instead of metal would help add to the story. Keep up the good work, it is no small task doing all the camera work yourself, and you did a great job.
Thanks for the feedback
I’ve had enough of this! I’ll be that guy who raises an angry, obnoxious technicality. Pooping your pants is better in shorts. Gravity takes care of the majority of the removal. You’re welcome, America.
You sir, are so brave. And I for one applaud you.
@@CoffeyCustomBuilds The pay isn’t great, but I’m doing important work. (I mean, I gotta add *some* variety to my standard your-work-and-shop-are-so-rad comments that I put on literally every video of yours that I watch.)
Beautiful saw horses! I really appreciate the knowledge that you share.
Thanks man! Appreciate you!
awe yeah.... i'd set some wood on those. Like a lot of wood
Great project! Well done……
Thanks for watching!
Ironically watching this while I’m taking a dump.
I'm replying while doing the same!
When it pinches it will pinch it.. god you’re so stupid
Nobody got time to poop their pants
I got stuff to build!
Great job!! Much better than the metal once
Makes the shop so much more warm!
Mortise and tenon go together like peas and carrots, or, um, never mind. I enjoy your editing and narration. Cheers.
Haha!
Do you really need a festool sander? I have and use both a shaper and router table.
Yes I do
I have invested so much money on the system that I can’t sell it now without losing a lot, but if I had a time machine I would not buy it.
I'd love to hear why.
Nice setup.
Thanks!
Nice work, one tip I will share is when ripping a lot of long strips from sheet goods it is easier to rip several larger strips first then rip the final strips from those. This not only makes them easier to handle than a full sheet but you maintain straighter cuts. Just calculate the rough width pieces to account for blade kerf loss plus a little margin like 1/4”
Definitely the best way to do it.
Why would you change the spindle to change cutters. Just take the retaining nut off and Change the cutter. That is how I have done it for the last 50 years
Different size arbor.
Awesome explanation. Question: how deep do these need to go? I'm making a table that's only 3/4" thick; should I not use c-channels?
3/4" thick is very thin for these but they make ones that I believe works in 1/2" material.
Much wow
Spraying 2K they recommend full independent breathing and all skin covered plus an air filtration system for chemicals and gas. It is one of the most toxic things ever.
I think it was the other way around, the plug looks like a domino (hence the name). Someone got lazy about naming the tool.
🤣🤣
Great video!! Love the way you describe exactly what your doing in what your building. Is there any chance now or in the future you would release the Cnc files to the chair build? Keep making great videos!!
I think I will!
Great looking piece like always. Any chance you sell the cnc files for this chair in the future? Would love to make some the “cheating” way 😂
Still thinking about whether I want to sell this design at all.
Great video, not seen yours before but will check out your other ones. A world away from my very much diy approach, but your skill is inspiring. On the chair width question, and related questions around ergonomics, have you read Chris Schwartz's The Stick Chair? It has a wealth of practical information on exactly these sort of questions, drawing on historical record and Chris's own experience as a maker. I believe the PDF is available on his site free, though the book is well worth the price.
I have that book! I need to read it for sure!
