I've been wanting to make these for years and I wish I hadn't waited so long. These are a great build and when you're done you have a piece of shop furniture that is both functional and looks awesome! The joinery on this piece will either challenge you or help you brush up on your skills. And did I mention they look awesome? I've made the cut lists available on my website here: www.coffeycustom...

  • @rconn1000
    @rconn1000 10 днів тому

    One thing I could suggest that might work better for you in some situations. You mentioned that the clamps stick out to far. You could use the Matchfit Dovetail Hardware kits to make your own clamps that would slide right in just like the clamps, but can be made to your specs that don't stick out so far..I have a more portable Matchfit system and have made quite a few jigs and clamps with the hardware variety packs..

    I am going to disagree with the others, the design while not offensive is pretty basic, and has been done similarly many times before, I am not a fan of through joinery, never have been but even worse is that you left the ends round and didn't take the time to square them off.

      @@CoffeyCustomBuilds it's so amusing when you give an honest critique to someone that makes you tube videos and think they are actually good at woodworking how offended they get, you're not the first. You have no idea of what my work is, and the fact that I learned under some of the masters of the 20th century, But you already know you won't like it. That's something to aspire to for sure, keep up the great attitude it will get you far I am sure.

    Love the video, here is my unsolicited feedback (you said you like it on Self Made). When you are talking to the camera, the depth of field seems too shallow, it looks odd, like you are on a green screen. I like the more casual nature of the voice over, you seem so jovial on the podcast, and that came through more in this video. Saying "why" you wanted the sawhorses made out of wood instead of metal would help add to the story. Keep up the good work, it is no small task doing all the camera work yourself, and you did a great job.

    Nice work, one tip I will share is when ripping a lot of long strips from sheet goods it is easier to rip several larger strips first then rip the final strips from those. This not only makes them easier to handle than a full sheet but you maintain straighter cuts. Just calculate the rough width pieces to account for blade kerf loss plus a little margin like 1/4”

    Great video, not seen yours before but will check out your other ones. A world away from my very much diy approach, but your skill is inspiring. On the chair width question, and related questions around ergonomics, have you read Chris Schwartz's The Stick Chair? It has a wealth of practical information on exactly these sort of questions, drawing on historical record and Chris's own experience as a maker. I believe the PDF is available on his site free, though the book is well worth the price.
